How to Wash & Whiten Yellowed Pillows

One of the problems that most of us are facing nowadays is keeping the house clean. In order to do that, the first place we need to start is the bedroom, as this is where we spend most of our time. We need to place extra care when it comes to the quality of our sheets and pillows, because these can fill with grime and just create an unhealthy place to live in.

This is the exact case with the yellowed pillows, as these usually gather dust and other unhealthy stuff, changing its color. In fact, one of the things that make a pillow yellow is sweat, as our body tends to sweat a lot especially during the night, as it tries to reach a comfortable temperature. Depending on the material that your pillow is made of, sweat will sometimes infiltrate it, and thus create that unappealing yellow color. Unfortunately, even if you are using pillow covers that are placed underneath the pillow case, such a problem can occur.

This is why you need to try and wash the pillows so they recover their original color. The recipe is quite simple and easy to create, not to mention that you can easily modify it according to your needs.

The first thing you need is, of course, hot water. This is essential, otherwise the recipe will not work. Alongside that, you will have to add a single cup of laundry detergent, as well as mix in a cup of some dishwasher detergent as well. The idea here is to try and use powdered dishwasher detergent, as this is the one that will offer you the best results. The recipe also requires you to add in some bleach, but if you don’t want chlorine bleach you can opt for some natural alternatives! Lastly, you will have to add half a cup of borax, as this will bring in the amazing results that you want.

There are a few things that you need to know before you go ahead with the pillow whitening process. First of all, you need to make sure that you check the label, as this will tell you if the pillow can be machine washed or not. Of course, you should remove any pillow protector as this is essential, otherwise you might cause damage to the washing machine.

Moreover, you need to fill the washing machine around 1/3 with hot water, then include all the ingredients we talked above. The machine will agitate them for a few minutes, and thus you will get the perfect mix that you always wanted! Try to follow all of these instructions and get the best results, as this will make it perfectly easy for you to remove that unappealing yellow color from your pillows. Don’t throw your pillows away, instead try to clean them like we instructed, and get some astonishing results!
